New Year, New resolutions? Last year when my mom and I were driving back home for the holidays she asked me what my plans were for this year and if I had any resolutions that i wanted to make for the following year. My answer was a resounding no! If I had learnt anything from the previous year was that one does not make any plans unless they had every intention of sticking to them, and since my only plan was to take each day and each challenge as it came, I choose to not make any New Year's resolutions this year. I want to live in the moment, I want to face each challenge as it comes without constantly looking back to a plan I made under different circumstances or situation. If and when I make solid plans I do want them to be influenced by the haze and excitement of a 'New Beginning/Year' I'm eagerly awaiting a year full of surprises, new friendships and challenges that will change and shape me for the better...Happy New Year

Pursuing change I’m scared; I’m doubting whether or not I will be able to do. Do I have the courage to stand and fight for what I want do I have the courage to pursue change. A lot of new and interesting things have been taking place at work, a lot of new areas for growth and a lot of new learning opportunities have come my way. At the begging I was scared to take them because I kept thing what would people say, what if I’m taking on more work than I can handle, what if I fail? So for a moment I was considering running away from the challenge, staying put in my little box of comfort. Why did I need to shake things up anyways, my life was great just as is. As I was on my way to tell my colleague ‘Thanks but not thanks, I’m happy where I am right here’ she told me something that gave me courage to go ahead and swim into the unknown...sometimes you have to pursue change. So what if I fail, so what if things are not easy and I have to fight to get my recognition, so what i...

Recently I have been re-thinking my role as a woman in the workplace. Now for those who know me, you know that I’m known for spotting what Siso – an old friend – used to term the 'Eminem' look. Now the Eminem look consists of a jean, t-shirt, hoodie and my favourite accessory a size 5 pair of Nike’s. This look works best for me because it draws attention away from my looks – which I prefer - to my talent. I love being a wall flower, that the best place to get to know everything about everyone. Then recently I came into contact with Lee who made me rethink my 'Eminem' look. Now this Lee is the complete opposite of me. She is the girly girl type , look my best, hair done, nails done everything done, so trust me when I say - not in a million years would I have believed that we would have anything in common. One day we were in the staff kitchen together and started talking. Somewhere along the way we stumbled onto the difference between feminism and equalism (ye...

The taxi driver is always wrong? Today on my way to work, I witnessed what I thought was one of the most profound moments in taxi driver history. So I was waiting a for a taxi to take me on my last journey before getting to work, I see an almost empty taxi on the far right of the road, so I don’t even try to flag it down because it means it is not gaping to take passengers. However to my disbelief this guy swerves into the far left lane – while the robot is red might I add – in front of other cars. When the robot turns green and the taxi come to a halt in front of me. Once I was inside I could here what was the ending of an argument between the driver and one of the passengers. The passenger was angry that the taxi driver had dangerously cut before other cars, he went on to tell him that driving like that was not only dangerous to him but to all the other people on the road. I chuckled a bit because I thought this guy was flagging a dead horse – most taxi drivers (and some pas...

Would be Housewife... I complain a lot, yes I am honest enough to know that complaining is one of the many things I do well in life. I use public transport to get to work - best believe that from getting off the train to getting on the taxi that will eventually take me to work I would have at least found five different things to complain bout. The music is too loud in the taxi, the passengers on the bus thinking they own the space, the person next to me is chewing so loud I can’t even here myself think.... the list does go on but I don't want to encourage my inner complaint. So one day as I was going on my very famous complaint route, I turned to one of my colleagues and say to her - "You know my life would be so much easier if I was a housewife'. She stops, turns and looks at me, with a rather puzzled look on her face and asks - 'Why'. I then told her: ‘That life would be easier for me if all I did was stay home and bake stuff”. Now before all the aw...

Getting Older with Grace... Lately I have been contemplating a lot of things in life. Whether I made the right choice in pursuing my career rather than a boy, if I should have been putting up the right image to attract what is perceived to be the 'right' guy at the 'right' time or whether I should have been climbing the social ladder rather than the work ladder. My family has gotten into that state where almost every conversation ends with - so who is he, is there a he, will you be getting married soon? Before these questions used to bother me because they used to make me wonder if I was doing the right thing in life, if being ambitious was really the route for me. Now their questions amuse me more than than they annoy me. Am I single? Yes. By choice? Yes. Am I waiting for prince charming to come sweep me off my feet? Maybe. Will I wait to be a pretty trophy wife? No. I am happy with the choices I have made so far, even if they people around watch and question, ...

DEATH Death...the one thing that is a guarantee besides the return of Christ. We talk about it, we preach about it, we know it's an eventuality we're all going to face but it never gets easier. To say goodbye to the people we love, not to speak to them, never to laugh or share our sorrows with. Death the ending of one life to give birth to eternity with our Father. Death is not easy but for a glimpse of eternity with God, it is worth the pain of leaving behind ones loved ones. Isaiah 25:1-12 NIV Lord , you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago. You have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified town a ruin, the foreigners’ stronghold a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. Therefore strong peoples will honor you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you. You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the...
