The taxi driver is always wrong?

Today on my way to work, I witnessed what I thought was one of the most profound moments in taxi driver history. So I was waiting a for a taxi to take me on my last journey before getting to work, I see an almost empty taxi on the far right of the road, so I don’t even try to flag it down because it means it is not gaping to take passengers. However to my disbelief this guy swerves into the far left lane – while the robot is red might I add – in front of other cars. When the robot turns green and the taxi come to a halt in front of me.

Once I was inside I could here what was the ending of an argument between the driver and one of the passengers. The passenger was angry that the taxi driver had dangerously cut before other cars, he went on to tell him that driving like that was not only dangerous to him but to all the other people on the road. I chuckled a bit because I thought this guy was flagging a dead horse – most taxi drivers (and some passenger too) do not care about the rules of the road as long as they arrived at their destination semi-safe and on time. During this guys entire tirade the taxi driver was very quiet after the guy was done making is point the taxi driver then answered ‘I guess the taxi driver is always wrong’.

I wanted to laugh at his response but I didn’t think it would have been the appropriate thing at the time. Once I got off the taxi, I thought to myself how often do we as public transport users forget the rules of the road to suite out immediate need to get to whatever place we want to go to. How often do we expect the taxi drivers to break the law to justify our own means. We should all take a page out of this passengers book the next time we use public transport, lets not turn a blind eye to their reckless behaviour...

Granted there a few law abiding taxi drivers however to answer my initial question, in this contest this taxi driver was in the wrong.
