An
apple a day keeps the body awake

Ned health is teaming up
with Virgin Active to come up with a new heath scheme to help the community of Klipfontain
stay healthy and active. This scheme will help the residents understand that
nutrition is the study of nutrients in food and also how the body uses these
nutrients to keep it healthy and active.
The scheme will also teach
the residents about how to keep in shape and also to learn about the positive
and negative effects of not eating healthy. It will be a fun and inter-active
way of pushing the Klipfontain community to start adopting healthier food
choices.
Ned health will be targeting
people between the ages of fourteen and sixty-five because these are all very
crucial ages. It will also target housewives and women who do all the cooking
in their homes. It will be teaching the community the differences between good and
bad nutrition, and also the different combinations of food that will help the
body stay a lot more active.
Some of the benefits the community
of Klipfontain will enjoy with this scheme is that they will be given healthy
food choices and the benefits of those choices. Eating healthy can result in a
person having more energy; it can also postpone or prevent chronic diseases,
such as cardiovascular disease (a heart condition). The scheme will not just
focus on the inside of the body but also the physical components of the body.
It will also organise activities like Pilates, yoga and kick boxing just to
keep the body in shape.
Ned health will highlight
the disadvantages of not eating correctly and not excersing. It will also share
great food tips for example: making soup is a great way to introduce veggies to
the kids, steaming meat and vegetables is a healthier option than cooking them
in oil and fresh grilled fruits are great for dessert. Drinking lots of water is healthy for the body.
Ned health will be funded by
a local NGO in partnership Virgin Active. The money will be made available from
the beginning of next month for the use of the community centre. This place
will house a nutritionist, instructors (yoga, kick boxing and Pilates), a
physio therapist who will be help with all the questions that the residents
might have about good and bad nutrition.
There will be about twenty
participants for the program. The first twenty to enter will automatically get
a place. Once the program is in full motion then all the residents will be able
to participate.
