Necessity is The Mother of all Invention....

You always hear of how people do the most extra ordinary things when times are hard or when they face trials but you never expect to be one of those people doing things that you would never do just to survive...well I learnt a pretty big lesson during the electricity crises at the MGI residence. I learnt the meaning of the phrase 'necessity is the mother of all inventions'. After three days in the dark and sleeping in the relative cold I decided that I want hot water for my hot water bottle and a cup of tea just for kicks - what I had not thought of was how I was going to achieve this goal...then I looked up at the candles that were burning in the corner and go a really good idea, boiling water with the help of candles *that sounds craze and dangerous right*. Maybe but at the time I did not care at all, so I walked into the kitchen took out a small pot and poured cold water into it, then I stood over the candles with my little pot and prayed for the best. low and behold after five agonizing minutes - my arms hurting from holding up the pot - the water starts to boil, I almost wept with joy. It took thirty straight minutes to get the water from luke warm to hot but man was it worth it in the end. I learned a valuable lesson during that dark week - when things are bad just look at the candle in the corner of the room...
