Simple Things


For some time now I have been listening to 'Miguel’s - simple things’ and the lyrics of the song are beautiful when you genuinely listen to what he is saying. The main thing I got from the song is that sometimes we need to re-group, re-align and re-focus and find pleasure in the simple things in life. 

Life is complicated enough as it as and the older you get the more complicated it will become. So in a way he is right we shouldn’t be looking for complicated things, sometimes we just need to be grateful for what we have been given. The simple things in life...

Don’t be mistaken now, sometimes the many complications we go through in our lives are God's ways of stretching us, moulding us and growing us to be more like Him. That however does not mean that we should not take pleasure in the simple things in life that he provides for us.

Yes the song is mostly about love and how we need to appreciate the person we are with rather than trying to shape them into the people we think they should be. I just decided to take Miguel’s words and apply them to a different aspect of my life...it’s a beautiful song with more meaning than is found when listening to it for the first time. 

Sometimes the simple things in life are the best things...

So firstly I guess I should apologize for the very  long hiatus...  Let me start at the very beginning; this past year was very hard for me. What made it even harder was finding out personally that the people who I thought would have my back were just not coming to the party - one of these days I’ll find the courage to tell that story.   I started the first quarter of the year unemployed because I had resigned from my job so it was a bit of a dark period for me -  that blog post coming up in a few weeks *she said hopefully* After a disastrous first three months I started a new job with new people, new challenges and just new everything. Fear on

I sometimes think I am my own worst nightmare, self-sabotaging before things even gets off the ground. Making a mess inside my own head then telling myself that it’s ok, I’m just protecting myself from potential harm. Over thinking even the most simplest of things because the very thought that I could actually deserve or be worthy of something seems too far-fetched for me, so I reply scenarios in my head coming up with all the   variable options then slowly bit by bit I tear down each and every single one of those options.  Discrediting them, discounting facts I do not know or yet understand all the way to making sure that I take apart all the scenarios I’ve played in my head.  Would be Housewife... I complain a lot, yes I am honest enough to know that complaining is one of the many things I do well in life. I use public transport to get to work - best believe that from getting off the train to getting on the taxi that will eventually take me to work I would have at least found five different things to complain bout. The music is too loud in the taxi, the passengers on the bus thinking they own the space, the person next to me is chewing so loud I can’t even here myself think.... the list does go on but I don't want to encourage my inner complaint.
